Quill – Your AI Chief of Staff
Quill X Claude: Do Even More With AI + Your Notes
The Quill Claude extension connects Claude Desktop to Quill's local MCP server, giving Claude direct access to your meetings, transcripts, notes, contacts, and projects. It allows you to ask Claude to help you draft follow-ups, prep for upcoming calls, analyze trends across meetings, and more, all while your data stays on your device.
Before You Start
You'll need two things in place before installing the extension:
- Claude Desktop needs to be installed on your machine. If you don't have it yet, download it from claude.com/download.
- Quill needs to be running whenever you want Claude to access your meeting data. The MCP server runs inside Quill, so if Quill isn't open, Claude won't be able to reach your data.
Turn On the MCP Server
- Click your account avatar (upper right) > Settings > Quill MCP Server.
- Enable the main MCP Server toggle.
- Wait until the server shows as running; you'll see the connection status update on the page.
If the server is already on from a previous setup, you can skip this step.
Install the Extension
- In Settings > Quill MCP Server, find Claude Desktop under Connect AI Assistants.
- Click Install.
- Quill opens Claude Desktop and prompts you to finish; click Install in Claude when asked.
That's it! Once installed, Claude can access your Quill data whenever both apps are running. Claude accesses your data directly from your own computer, so this does not require hosting any of your information in the cloud.
After Installation
Open Settings → Extensions in Claude Desktop and make sure the Quill extension is enabled. This is the first place to check if Claude can't seem to find your meetings.
Manual Install
If the automatic install doesn't work, Quill will prompt you to download the extension file and install it yourself:
- Open Claude Desktop.
- Go to Settings → Extensions.
- Drag and drop the extension file that Quill saved to your machine.
What Claude Can Access
Once connected, Claude has access to the same data Quilliam works with:
- Meetings — titles, dates, durations, and metadata.
- Transcripts — full speaker-attributed transcripts.
- Notes — your AI-generated meeting notes and summaries.
- Contacts — access and update your contact list and profiles.
- Projects — project groupings and associated meetings.
- Templates — create templates for generating custom-formatted notes.
- Dictionary — teach Quill names and other words that are often misheard.
Using Claude with Your Meetings
With the extension installed, you can have natural conversations with Claude about your meeting data. A few examples of what you can do:
- Analyze patterns and trends: Claude can look across multiple meetings to spot recurring themes or track how a project has evolved. For example: "Summarize the progress on Project Atlas across all meetings this month."
- Build with your notes: Ask Claude to expand on meeting notes, turn them into a visual report, or reformat them for a different audience. For example: "Take the notes from today's standup and turn them into a status update for leadership."
- Organize and enrich: Claude can group related meetings into threads, add observations to contact profiles, or generate new notes with a different template or focus. For example: "In Quill, update Milton in my contacts - he loves his red stapler and his email is milton@initech.example.com."
Upgrading the Extension
When Quill includes a newer extension than the one installed in Claude, you'll see Upgrade next to Claude Desktop in Settings > Quill MCP Server. Click it and confirm in Claude Desktop when prompted.
Quill may also surface a reminder after startup so you don't miss updates.
Uninstalling
- Open Settings > Quill MCP Server in Quill.
- Under Claude Desktop, click Uninstall.
- Confirm in Claude Desktop when prompted.
Troubleshooting
- Install or Upgrade button is disabled? The MCP server needs to be running first. Turn it on in Settings > Quill MCP Server and wait until it shows as active.
- Claude doesn't show your meetings? Open Settings → Extensions in Claude Desktop and confirm the Quill extension is enabled. Also make sure Quill is running.
- Getting connection errors? Keep Quill running, try restarting Claude Desktop, and check that security software isn't blocking localhost connections. The MCP server only listens locally, so firewall or antivirus tools occasionally interfere.
Still stuck? Email support@quillmeetings.com and the team will help you sort it out.
